This morning I’m en route from Florida to New York. I’ve had a relaxing and fun-filled vacation down south, but I’m ready to head back to the chaos and lights that I call home. Tonight I’ll ring in the New Year with Josh, a sparkly dress, cocktails, and lots of dancing and music. Wishing you all the Happiest New Year yet. Here’s to 2013.

With the new year beginning in just a few days, I’ve spent some time reflecting on 2012. I started this blog just a little over 6 months ago, and it’s become my favorite obsession. I had always loved and read style, baking, and lifestyle blogs and was inspired by other bloggers (including many of you)! I needed a place to help me remember the little things that make me happy, and I realized that girlavantgarde.com had to be it. I’m still so excited about posting, reading your comments, meeting new blogger friends, and being introduced to new brands, that I wake up with a smile on my face each and every morning. Other than missing Josh (my motivated workaholic), I am having so much fun with my family in Florida. I’ve been completely lazy – lounging by the pool and beach, reading exciting novels and fashion magazines, and eating yummy food. Last night, we went out to dinner at Chima, a Brazilian steakhouse in Fort Lauderdale. When getting dressed, I was inspired by an Old Hollywood movie I recently watched, so I opted for a classic look – a London Times black and white lace dress paired with a cherry red lip. And since my love for anything that sparkles (as I confessed here and here) is in full swing, these glitter pointy-toed pumps from Sole Society (love their shoes!) were the ultimate finish to my look.
I love this cocktail recipe because it is so quick and easy, that if you find yourself needing a refill at the start of the 10 second countdown, you might just make it. And besides, it looks classy and tastes like candy. Cheers to a happy and healthy upcoming new year!

We arrived in Florida early yesterday morning and I could hardly wait to hit the beach. I love living in the whirlwind that is New York City, but come December I miss the warm rays of sunshine. As soon as we got to the hotel, I changed into this Ella Moss number from Swimspot and dug my feet into the warm sand. I love the bright colors of the tunic and how, despite my pale winter skin, I felt immediately tropical. Swimspot also has some cute bathing suits including my favorites here and here.
