Thanksgiving

Today, I’ll wake up in New Jersey in my plush pink childhood bedroom. My tiny maltese will run into my room and jump on my bed, waking me up way too early. I’ll make my not-so little anymore brothers watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with me. The house will smell of its holiday scents like the cinnamon marshmallow sweet potatoes and the turkey in the oven, and my parents and grandma will be running around the kitchen in a frenzy. I’ll lazily stay in my pajamas, wrapped up in a snuggie until I begin to help out in the kitchen with my favorite part of every meal – desert. Then my cousins will arrive and we’ll celebrate.

I love Thanksgiving for so many reasons, but mostly because it’s a perfect day that reminds me I have a lot for which to be thankful.

Josh has been waking up early and working later than ever. He never complains, so I definitely don’t deserve to either. Still, I miss him. I’m just looking forward to tomorrow, the only day this week we have free. Maybe we’ll sleep late, see a matinee, try a new restaurant. I live for days like those, where I get to enjoy the little things. Wishing you a wonderful weeked.

Finally, finally Friday! This week has been wild and super stressful. School is picking up speed and the not so glamorous aspects of my life are fully taking over. The days are going by faster than ever, and that’s because I haven’t had a moment to relax. I’ve been sort of a drama queen about it. Poor Josh has had to put up with my mood swings (my sweet boy). On Tuesday, I found myself crying in the rain when a man stole my cab. And this morning, when my alarm went off at 6am, all I could think about was singing, in Chris Brown autotune, “Don’t Wake me up, up, up, up, up, up.” But when I’m stressed, I just have to remember all the wonderful opportunities I have, the amazing people that surround me, and that the weekend is only a short ways away. So, today, as I embark on yet another hectic day, I’ll have these photos to remind me of some of the happier things filling up my life lately. And then, the weekend…

The weather in New York is slowly starting to change. The evenings are slightly cooler and I’ve broken out my Fall jackets. We finally shut off the air conditioning in our apartment, and I was so chilly the other night I pulled out our down comforter (okay, fine, only to throw it on the floor a few hours later). Whenever a new season comes around I say it’s my favorite.  But finally I’ve pinpointed why I get so excited. I love the changes in every season. With Fall, I look forward to the little things mentioned above, and also other changes like: warm soup the first chilly day; scarves, leggings and layers on a cool weekend; seasonal treats like caramel apples and sweet butternut squash. This weekend we intend to spend some time outdoors, walking around the city, and enjoying the oncoming chill before Fall flies by too quickly.

Hello everyone, I’m Amy and my blog Leopard & Lillies talks about fashion, style and my life living in Dubai.  As Courtney is enjoying her first week back in Law School, she asked me to stop over and share some of my favorite fall tends.   While it doesn’t start to cool off in Dubai till November or December I am always looking for ways to find Fall-friendly items that will work with our hot weather here in Dubai. The trend I love most this fall is leather.  However, leather pants and leather jackets aren’t ideal in Dubai with our current temperature averaging close to 100 degrees in August and September.  However, a cute leather pleated skirt and leather shorts are perfect transition pieces that also work great in the Dubai heat. This vegan friendly leather skirt from Free People is perfect with bare legs but also great with booties and tights when it starts to cool off later in the year. Thanks so much for inviting me to guest post Courtney!  Have a great first week back!  Feel free to stop by and check out my blog Leopard & Lillies.

Much love from the sandbox, Amy
