Ever since I made my own tie dyed shirts for summer camp Color Wars growing up, I never really got over my love for tie dye. Lulu*s had a grown up version in this maxi dress, and I knew immediately I’d live in it all summer long. Besides, you know how much I love maxi dresses (as seen here on vacation and here going to dinner.)
This past Saturday, Josh and I had a day that Josh jokingly calls “Courtney Day”, doing a few of my favorite no-stress activities: brunch, shopping, and a day in Central Park. Out of the three years that we’ve lived in NYC, we never really spent a summer weekend here. But with the bar coming up at the end of July, I’ve been studying more and more. Still, we’ve surprised ourselves with how much we enjoy these quieter and low-key weekends.

One of my favorite colors to wear year round is plum. It’s unique from the darker shades like grey, black, and navy that I often wear in the winter, but also compliments a tan in the summer months. So when I saw this dress in LAmade‘s new arrivals section, I knew it would soon become a staple in my wardrobe. The weather is finally, albeit incredibly slowly, getting warmer and I’m single-handedly trying to bring up the temperature by dressing the part. But really, once it peaks above the 60s, this dress will be on repeat again and again.

My weeks seem to be getting busier and busier. I swear I’m not being a drama queen, but yesterday’s activities required 3 outfit changes (school, meeting, and dinner). This outfit was the third of the day and although I was chilly (spring, where are you?) it was the most comfortable. I’ve said it before here and here, I love maxis. They’re chic without trying too hard. Although I was ready for a nap at about 5pm, I changed into this dress and met my friend for wine and sushi. It was definitely worth it.

The dreamer in me plans my outfits for special events and even holidays way in advance. For our Valentine’s Day dinner date, I’ll be wearing this maxi. Navy, green, and white is a refreshing and unexpected contrast from the shades of pinks and reds on everyone else and the length of the dress is romantic in its own way. Because I’ll be going straight from class to dinner, I’ll dress it down during the day with a long cardigan, and then show off the neckline when the sun sets.

One of my goals this week is to make summer last as long as possible. Maybe it’s the amazing fall clothes the stores have filled up with, or maybe it’s because next week is the first week of school, but either way, to me, this is the last week of summer. So with the week off, I’ve decided to soak up as much sun as possible, spending time outdoors in my favorite summer uniforms, including this maxi and sandals. Goodness, I hate the last day of sandals.
