One of my favorite colors to wear year round is plum. It’s unique from the darker shades like grey, black, and navy that I often wear in the winter, but also compliments a tan in the summer months. So when I saw this dress in LAmade‘s new arrivals section, I knew it would soon become a staple in my wardrobe. The weather is finally, albeit incredibly slowly, getting warmer and I’m single-handedly trying to bring up the temperature by dressing the part. But really, once it peaks above the 60s, this dress will be on repeat again and again.
My weeks seem to be getting busier and busier. I swear I’m not being a drama queen, but yesterday’s activities required 3 outfit changes (school, meeting, and dinner). This outfit was the third of the day and although I was chilly (spring, where are you?) it was the most comfortable. I’ve said it before here and here, I love maxis. They’re chic without trying too hard. Although I was ready for a nap at about 5pm, I changed into this dress and met my friend for wine and sushi. It was definitely worth it.
The dreamer in me plans my outfits for special events and even holidays way in advance. For our Valentine’s Day dinner date, I’ll be wearing this maxi. Navy, green, and white is a refreshing and unexpected contrast from the shades of pinks and reds on everyone else and the length of the dress is romantic in its own way. Because I’ll be going straight from class to dinner, I’ll dress it down during the day with a long cardigan, and then show off the neckline when the sun sets.
One of my goals this week is to make summer last as long as possible. Maybe it’s the amazing fall clothes the stores have filled up with, or maybe it’s because next week is the first week of school, but either way, to me, this is the last week of summer. So with the week off, I’ve decided to soak up as much sun as possible, spending time outdoors in my favorite summer uniforms, including this maxi and sandals. Goodness, I hate the last day of sandals.
I was so utterly cranky before we took these pictures on Tuesday. Our flight home from Maine on Monday evening got cancelled, so we woke up at 4am taking the earliest flight, and ran to work. It’s days like those where sometimes you need a statement necklace to say, “I can brighten up your day.” Because face it, anyone can rock a statement necklace, everyone needs at least one, andthis turquoise one from Lisa Leonard Designs is absolutely to. die. for. I paired it here with a chic black maxi, killer Dior heels, and a Zac Posen bag, but you can wear it with anything, a t-shirt and jeans, day dress, whatever…which is you why you simply must check out Lisa Leonard Designs’ amazing jewelry. You can also follow their blog, Pinterest, or Facebook. I know I am!
