FAVORITE SPRING BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Spring is a time for filling our houses with flowers, sipping iced coffee at outdoor cafes, and wearing lots of pastel colored dresses. To match the warm weather and happy feelings I also stash my smokey eye palettes, oxblood lip colors, dark nail polish, and heavy perfume. In their places are my current favorite beauty products for Spring, including: pastel nails and eye shadows to match my girly dresses; pink, berry, and coral lips for a hint of color; and a spritz of light, romantic perfume to top it off. The list below includes my current rotation. What are your favorites?

Outfit – Polish Problem

Jumpsuit c/o Lulus.com | Clutch – Club Monaco (similar here) | Gloves – Similar on sale | Bracelet – BaubleBar | Jacket – Vintage (similar on sale) | Shoes – Prabal Gurung x Target | Nails – Julep in Alyson, Lucy, & Vivien

Let me tell you about my polish problem. If you came over my apartment one of the first things you’d notice is that it is overflowing with nail polish. They’re everywhere (bathroom cabinets, on my coffee table, etc. etc). I love to do my nails while I’m watching television or studying (hello multi-tasking). So when the people at Julep asked me to pair my nails with an outfit for their blog I couldn’t wait.

I chose Julep shades Alyson & Lucy , which struck the perfect balance for February  - Valentine love and indoor fireside warmth. Because I can’t resist a little bling I paired it with the glittery Vivien too. I chose to match my outfit to my nails, but I also love that these colors can be mixed, matched, and decorated to create a whole new vibe.

Sparkly Winter Manicure

sparkly manicures

During the cold winter months, my nails are often painted darker jewel-toned shades. But not-so shockingly, I’m on a glitter kick, so I decided to change up my routine last week. A silver or white base creates a winter wonderland vibe and sparkly manicures are a nice change of pace. To get the effect of sparkling snow, here’s what I did.

silver polish

Prep hands and nails. Make sure previous color is off, cut and file nails, then push back or cut cuticles. Moisturize, then wash hands.

Coat nails with base coat, then two coats of any shade of white or silver polish.

sparkle manicure

Coat the very tips of nails with sparkly nail polish. Dab lightly halfway down nail, to create a trickle effect.

Isn’t the Fall flying by? I’m in the midst of writing a fashion law paper for school and it’s taken over my life this past week. Still, I break once in a while so I can be a real person. I also have a rule against doing work on Saturdays (at least until the semester starts to sum up), so I’ll take full advantage of that tomorrow. I’m begging Josh to see Perks of Being a Wallflower. If you’ve seen it, how was it? I’d love to know!

DIY – Glitter and Striped Nail Polished Keys

diy polish key, striped key chain, striped key, polished key, painted key

Fact – I’ve never finished up a bottle of nail polish. Not that I don’t have never fail colors I choose over and over again, but I have such a huge collection, with one manicure a week, it’s impossible. But there are tons of clever uses for nail polish: stop panty hose runs, prevent costume jewelery from tarnishing, and beautifying your keys. And I felt my keys needed a makeover. For my key makeover, I chose 3 very different, very bright colors, so that I never get my keys confused again.

Choose one color for each key

Paint the top of the key, 2-3 coats

Let dry for a few hours

Optional – Paint a design on key. I chose stripes, sparkles and glitter. Then paint with top coat and let dry
